Ye bhi to insaan hai saab….

I want to share a very special episode of my life that changed me forever. This is a very little snippet, hardly important for some, but frankly speaking, for me, this is EDUCATION, and trust me, its far better than what i recieved sitting at my desk both at school and college.
Uzan Bazar, riverside-way leading to raj bhawan- its one of my favourite places of the city. This incident happened there, almost 3yrs from now. We were, or are, 3 friends, Seemanta, Prosenjit, and me. Very close knit. Seemanta had applied for NDA exam right after class 12. By the time this incident happened, he had already appeared for the written exam and was preparing himself hard for the physical endurance test. Part of his regime was running the entire length of the road upto raj bhawan four times every morning and then exercising in “kauri” park. Now this was a group activity, and we three did it together, getting up every morning at 4:30. Usually after finishing our regime, we would rest a bit, have some water at a ‘sweet’ shop opposite Vivekananda kendra. Dat morning was no different. We were relaxing near the shop, chatting about stuff, when a lady and her husband came to the shop, with a monkey bound by a chain. They were buying those half litre milk packets that go by the name of ‘purabi’. Now they had a particular ‘vagabond’ ish look about them- not very well groomed, and features ruffled by the effect of sun, wind and water. Probably they slept in the open and begged for sustenance. Seemanta started playing with the monkey. We followed suite. The couple gave us a friendly glance and then displayed to us very proudly that the monkey could lift its right paw and shake hands in a very gentlemanly manner! We noticed that the left paw of the monkey was smaller than the other one , and scarred, and perhaps mutiliated a bit. We asked about it . Now the lady took charge. She said, “Ye gir gaya tha saab, ucha per se gir gaya tha. Sidha ek sukha nala mein gir gaya tha. Sab bheer lagake dekh rahe the isko. Ye behosh ho gaya tha. Kauwa ka jhund isko thokar maar raha tha. Tabhi main isko naala se uthaya saab. Isko saaf kia. Dudh pilaya dukan se kharid k. Tab hosh ayaa. Iska panja kharab ho gaya tha saab. Electiri khamba mein panja lagaya to jhatka kha k niche gira saab. Panja sar gaya tha saab. Tabhi mandir k logo ne bola khanapara mein janwar ka aspatal hai. Mai paisa jama karke le gia isko waha saab, bus mein bithake. Waha daaktar ne sui lagaya, patti lagaya saab, tab jake thic hua saab. Abhi ye mera beta hai aur mai iski maa saab. Kya karega saab, kaise chorega isko main, ye bhi to insaan hai . Ye jyaada tang nahi karta saab. Sirf teen time dukan se dudh pilao to chup rahta hai. Paisa mil jaata hai saab. Mandir k log dete hai, kabhi koi babu isko dekhke paisa dete hai. Kaise chore ga saab. Ye bhi to insaan hai saab.”
There were tears in my eyes. Its a pity we still have incidents of new born babies abandoned at garbage dumps. Not their fault. Few,indeed are lucky to have this EDUCATION.

  3. I am really loving the theme/design of your site. Do you ever run into any internet browser compatibility problems? A small number of my blog visitors have complained about my blog not working correctly in Explorer but looks great in Safari. Do you have any ideas to help fix this issue?
